FAR INRARED SAUNA THERAPY

Far-Infrared Therapy involves the use of Far-Infrared Rays (FIR), which are invisible waves of energy that penetrate the body skin to elevate the body’s temperature and promote body systems’ functions.

At the Queens Road Clinic we use a dome sauna to administer the Far Infrared Therapy. You simply lie down in the sauna from 30 minutes to an hour to receive the benefits of the therapy. Please note that your head is out of the sauna.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Detoxification

It is one of the body’s ways to heal and maintain good health.

Far Infrared Sauna promotes effortless, deep, productive sweat.

Infrared Sauna’s fundamental benefit is the ability to sweat out toxic substances naturally.

Our infrared sauna promotes a deep detoxifying sweat that will leave you feeling cleansed, refreshed, and energised.

The Far Infrared waves penetrate your skin and heat your core to expel the toxins, rather than just sitting in hot, ambient air that only heats your outer skin.

Sweating is good for you. It’s one of the body’s safest and most natural ways to heal and maintain good health. Alternative medicine widely embraces sauna detox for treatment. Researchers have long told us how the body sweats out toxin build-up, including heavy metals.

Every time we sweat, we flush out the toxic substances and heavy metals that we encounter in everyday life. Infrared sauna therapy promotes this process by heating your body from the inside to expel them from deep down.

Immunity

Far Infrared Sauna helps cell health and overall immunity.

Far Infrared Sauna increases core body temperature.

Raising body temp above normal temperature for therapeutic treatment is called hyperthermia.

Increased body temperature activates and strengthens your immune system as it is a signal to the white blood cells to come to the rescue. It also stimulates heat shock proteins that deter viruses from reproducing and reduces inflammatory cytokines.

An Austrian study of 25 healthy subjects who regularly used saunas found they had significantly fewer episodes of common colds than those who did not.

Cardiovascular health

Far Infrared Sauna strengthens your heart. Infrared therapy acts like a passive cardio workout, which helps your heart by improving circulation and even helping to reduce blood pressure.

Infrared sauna sessions raise your heart rate and increase circulation. This replicates a cardiovascular workout we term ‘’passive cardio’’. In fact, blood flow during infrared sauna use may rise from a normal rate of 5 litres per minute to up to 12 litres per minute.

Your heart is a muscle; working it make it stronger. A stronger cardiovascular system helps capillaries deliver more oxygen to muscle cells. For people with injuries or conditions precluding them from cardio activity, our sauna can help serve as an alternative for needed cardio benefits.

Our sauna provides one of the best, natural ways to help temporarily lower blood pressure. Our sauna dilates blood vessels and reduces the volume of their inner lining, thus increasing circulation needed for healthy blood pressure.

A Japanese study published in the October 2008 issue of the Journal of Cardiology examined clinical effectiveness and safety of infrared blood pressure therapy, as compared to standard therapies for patients with chronic heart failure. The report concluded that far infrared sauna therapy is both safe and effective at improving clinical symptoms and cardiac function as well as decreasing cardiac size in chronic heart failure patients. Repeated infrared sauna use improved impaired blood vessel functions in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. This suggests a preventative role, as a part of a healthy lifestyle, for infrared sauna use for arteriosclerosis.

The ability of Infrared saunas to heal endothelium and improve symptoms and prognosis for congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease is remarkable.

Muscle recovery

Infrared therapy helps deliver more oxygen to muscle cells for faster repair and pain relief.

Infrared light heats the body from within and penetrates the joints, muscles and tissues, increasing circulation and blood flow.

Good circulation is critical for proper healing. Red blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients to the site of the strain or inflammation, which helps to create new blood vessels and tissues at the site. The more red and white blood cells that can get delivered to muscles, the quicker they rebuild. Our Far infrared sauna has been found to be very effective in terms of far infrared absorption into the body.

Far Infrared accelerates recovery. The Journal of Athletic Enhancement published a study of 10 national-level power athletes that found that far infrared improves neuromuscular performance during intensive training associated with increased testosterone/cortisone ratio.

Improved recovery enables harder training and accelerate further athletic development.

Infrared therapy increases flexibility and joint mobility.

Weight loss

Infrared therapy creates a passive workout, stimulating sluggish metabolism and improving fat burning.

Sauna’s cardiovascular benefits are like a cardio workout.

A 2019 study compared participants’ cardiovascular effects in a sauna and on an exercise bike. The increase in heart rate was similar to a short, moderate workout. Researchers stated, ‘’A sauna session is a physical strain. Its long-term positive effects are comparable to sport activities.’’

Saunas releases toxins and reduce inflammation.

Studies have shown that sauna therapy can release environmental toxins stored in fat tissues that can prevent weight loss. Heavy metals and fat soluble chemicals like PCBs, PBBs and HCBs can trigger the body to protect itself, resulting in the immune system’s inflammatory response. Infrared sauna therapy heats the body at the cellular level, helping to detoxify the body and reduce inflammation.

Having healthy body composition and waist size help us live longer, healthier life. A Mayo Clinic pooled study showed that waist circumference is a critical factor for assessing the risk of premature death. As part of an overall program of nutrition, behaviour change and exercise, a sauna can help achieve health goals. A study of diabetic patients attending 3  20 minutes sauna sessions per week over 3 months showed a decrease in waist circumference, suggesting benefit to regular sauna use.

Infrared therapy relieves stress and lower cortisol. Studies have shown the direct connection between stress, cortisol, and weight gain. By naturally relieving stress through the use of infrared sauna this helps break the connection between cortisol and weight gain. Stress relief lower cortisol, which can help create a healthy metabolism, thus contributing to weight loss.

Anti-aging and skin health

Far Infrared saunas increase circulation helping regenerate cells.

Far infrared light enhances skin tone and texture. In a 2006 study, researchers examined the impact of infrared on collagen and elastin, 2 key ingredients of healthy skin. They found that both collagen and elastin increased after exposure to infrared and all patients included in the study reported enhanced skin texture, less roughness, and improvement in colour.

Infrared sauna reduces appearance of acne.

Infrared saunas may help reduce acne and improve the appearance of acne scarring. Build-up of oil on the skin causes acne, and when your body produces a lot of oil it leads to constant breakouts. Infrared saunas stimulate sweat from infrared heat – not heated air- which can help clean out those clogged pores at the cellular level.

Infrared saunas naturally detoxify the skin.

They are clinically proven to reach deeper levels into your skin, effectively removing environmental toxicants.

Relaxation

Infrared saunas provide an enjoyable place to receive the full-body benefits of relaxation and stress reduction.

Infrared saunas help you relax in natural comfort with an invigorating deep tissue sweat that will have you feeling fully refreshed after every sauna session.

Our sauna delivers the most therapeutic infrared sauna heat so that you can be enveloped in soothing warmth to help you relieve stress, ease your muscles, and fully relax.

Infrared sauna therapy helps to balance your body’s level of cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. The heat generated by the sauna will also help to relax muscles and relieve tension throughout the body, allowing you to relax and de-stress.

Sleep

Infrared therapy may improve the amount and quality of sleep. The mechanism for this effect has not been firmly established but may be related to the ability of infrared to act as an “exercise mimetic.” It is well known that physical exercise will improve disturbed sleep. Infrared radiation can increase blood flow and oxygen metabolism in the muscles and the skin and could trigger a biochemical cascade resulting in improved sleep.
